The Wells Free School

The Wells Free School Board of Governors

Each of our governors brings some form of specific expertise to the Governing Body. Some formed part of the original school proposer team and others have joined us since the school opened in September 2013. All governors take a passionate interest in the school and work in partnership with our talented and dedicated staff team to deliver the best possible educational experience for the children at The Wells Free School.

Chair of Governors

I have been a member on the governing body since 2015 and it's a huge privilege to serve the school. I have 15 years of experience as a BBC journalist and I currently work for the National Association of Head Teachers, so I'm well connected and up to speed on education policy. I try to bring these skills to bear at governors meetings.

The Ofsted judgement of Good, shows that the school is doing great things but there are also many challenges for a single academy school, so I'm committed to making sure that all our children get the best possible education during their time at The Wells.

I believe in supporting the leadership team to continue to do the great work they do, whilst always pushing them to go further.

We should all be very proud of the great partnership we have between the school, its parents and pupils. That is the foundation of everything the Wells school stands for.

Jane Page

Appointed by

Parent Governor

I have been a Parent Governor since December 2017 and put myself forward for election because I was interested in becoming more involved with the school behind the scenes.  My 30+ years of experience in business and more specifically in Human Resources were skills and experience which, at the time, the Governing body did not have.  For the past 7 years I have been an HR Director working in the social care sector and so my experience of working within a highly regulated industry have really helped me to get to grips with the education sector.  I have thoroughly enjoyed my time being a Governor and have found it both interesting and rewarding to see the school grow, develop and establish itself as a sought-after primary school in Tunbridge Wells.

Kate Burrows

Governor- appointed by the GB/Board

As a teacher at TWFS from the year it opened, I enjoyed immersing myself in the life of the school as well as being a Staff Governor. Having left to have my family, I now return as a co-opted Governor.

I am passionate about education and am keen to be part of TWFS as it grows within the community. I believe in the founding ethos of the school and am looking forward to working with the staff, children and families again.

Staff Governor- appointed by the staff

I am an experienced classroom teacher of 14 years. I have taught in EYFS (Reception Year), KS1 and lower KS2, leading the Early Years team at my previous school. I really enjoy working at The Wells and felt that I wanted a new challenge, which led me to applying to be a Staff Governor. I really enjoy working with the Governors and having an understanding into the background running of the school.

I am Louise Hallam, and have recently retired from a long and very rewarding teaching career in Bath, Luxembourg, and in Kent and Sussex.  It has been a privilege and a pleasure to spend my working life surrounded by children and young people. There is nothing better! I am delighted to be joining the governing body of TWFS and look forward to working with staff, children and parents and to being able to contribute to this happy, friendly school.

Ashley Webb

Governor - appointed by the GB/Board

I joined the TWFS Board as a governor in September 2020. I have a master’s degree in economics from The University of Edinburgh and I’ve spent the past five years as an Economist in the Civil Service working on a wide range of economic issues.

I volunteered to be a governor as I am passionate about all young people having access to excellent quality education and having the opportunity to become the best they can be, without being limited by their circumstances. I’m really pleased to be part of TWFS as it continues to grow within the local community.

A good education has opened many doors for me, and I am keen for other young people to be able to fulfil their potential and grow into ambitious, confident adults, whilst making a good contribution to society.

I live on RWP and I am Treasurer of the Residents Association as I have a strong interest in the local community. In the 1990’s I was Parent Governor Member at Eastbury Farm Primary School, Northwood and enjoyed being involved in helping maintain the quality of the school and the strong OFSTED rating.

My own education was in Middlesbrough and then at Sale Grammar School, I then became an Articled Clerk and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in the City of London. My career was a mixture of Property, Insurance, Finance and Professional Training based in the UK and in Oman.

I would very much like to help contribute to the on-going success of Wells Free School and have already enjoyed my participation in the various activities and meeting my fellow Governors and Staff.
