Music
Our vision is for music to be purposeful, ambitious and joyful. We want children to learn through imaginative and flexible teaching, to make music together within and beyond the school day, and to benefit from the creativity of our wider community. By making excellent use of our indoor and outdoor environments, and by providing regular opportunities to perform, listen and participate, music will enrich school life and help pupils develop the skills, confidence and cultural understanding they need for the future.
- Music will have a clear place within the school structure, led by a designated Music Lead.
- Children will receive timetabled curriculum music, with the ambition of at least one hour each week across the school year.
- Pupils will have access to lessons and experiences across a range of instruments and voice.
- A school choir and vocal opportunities will support children to sing together with confidence.
- Ensemble, band or group music-making will enable pupils to collaborate and perform with others.
- Appropriate spaces will be used creatively for rehearsal, individual practice and performance.
- Children will have regular opportunities to perform, including at least termly school performances.
- Pupils will experience live music at least once a year, helping them to appreciate a wide range of musical styles, cultures and traditions.
Music encourages children to develop their innate creativity through a subject which is multi-sensory. It crosses the boundaries of other forms of communication and allows all children explore their creativity, express themselves and to shine. At TWFS, we want children to be able to sing, play a musical instrument and create music together. To enable this to happen, we want to ensure that we are offering all elements of the National Music Plan’s high-quality music provision list.
All pupils in Year 4 have ukulele lessons.
We are also able to offer clarinet, flute, brass, guitar, keyboard, drumkit, cello and violin lessons provided by Make Time for Music.
